Get Outside Before the Day Starts: My Simple Morning Reset
Most mornings start the same way for me. Before the emails, before clients, before the to-do list, I start my day with electrolytes and creatine, then grab my coffee with collagen and MCT powder, leash up Duke, and head outside for a walk.

Yesterday the sun was coming up over the marsh, and I stopped just to take it in. It reminded me how much these few quiet minutes matter.
I didn't always protect this time. Years ago my mornings were a blur of lunches, backpacks, sports schedules, and running out the door. I was exhausted and running on empty, and I didn't realize how much my body needed a calm start before the day took over.

Now I know these few minutes outside do more for me than almost anything else I do all day. Here's why.
1. Morning light helps set your body clock.
Your body runs on an internal clock, your circadian rhythm, and light is one of its strongest signals. Getting outside in natural light early in the day helps tell your body it's daytime. That can support steadier energy during the day and better sleep at night. Even on cloudy days, outdoor light is much brighter than indoor light.
2. A walk helps calm a stressed-out system.
So many of us wake up and go straight into go mode, checking our phones, rushing, reacting. A gentle walk gives your nervous system a chance to settle before the day starts asking things of you. It's one of the simplest ways I know to support healthy stress hormones.
3. Movement helps your body handle blood sugar.
Your muscles use glucose when they work, so even a short walk can help your body manage blood sugar. You don't need a hard workout for it to count.
You don't need a perfect morning.
You don't need a sunrise like this or an hour to spare. Ten minutes outside, rain or shine, coffee in hand if that helps. Just start there.
And if your mornings are full of packing lunches and getting kids off to school, I've been there. Some days the best you can do is five minutes on the back step before the rush. That still counts. Giving your body a few calm minutes before the day takes over helps regulate your whole system.
A few easy ways to start:
Step outside before you look at your phone.
Take your coffee or tea out to the porch or yard.
Walk the dog, walk to the mailbox, or walk the block.
If mornings are truly impossible, get outside at lunch. Some light is better than none.
